Barbering Program

Cosmoton Academy is not a clipper-cut school — though you will absolutely master the professional skill of clipper cutting. We offer a full and complete education covering everything your barber license is designed to encompass. FAQ

Common Questions

How long does the program take?

The program is 1,000 hours and can typically be completed in 5–6 months. Up to 500 hours may be completed via distance education, giving you flexibility while still completing required hands-on training in person.

What are the school hours?

Classes are held Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am–4pm.

What is the difference between barber school and cosmetology school?

Cosmetology students spend roughly 200 hours on nails and makeup — barbers spend those same hours on shaving and facials. A barber license still covers color, perms, skin care, and long hair. At Cosmoton, we teach all of it.

Do you offer a crossover program?

Yes — we offer a crossover program exclusively to recent graduates who are within one year of completing their program in the field. Contact us for details.

What comes in the student kit?

Your kit includes real, professional-grade tools — the same tools our instructors use in the shop. You graduate with a full working kit, not student-grade equipment. Students also work with professional product lines including Wella, Paul Mitchell, and Reuzel throughout their training.

What is the tuition?

Contact us directly for current tuition information. We also offer scholarships and low-interest student financing through The Financing Corporation (TFC).

Is financial aid or scholarships available?

Cosmoton Academy is a Pivot Point school approved by the BPPE (Bureau for Private and Postsecondary Education). We are not a FAFSA-eligible institution. Many students qualify for the Starry Sky Scholarship, the Barber Society Academic Scholarship, or one of our annual rotating scholarships — see the school for current details. We also offer low-interest student financing through The Financing Corporation (TFC).

Do I need any prior experience to enroll?

No prior experience is required. Our program is designed to take you from beginner to licensed professional.

What is the state board pass rate?

Our instructors have a strong track record preparing students for state board exams. Contact us for the most current pass rate information.

Do you offer job placement assistance?

Absolutely. We provide 100% job placement support — resume help, interview coaching, and direct connections to hiring shops.
